Windows Phone aims to win over Android users with Droid Rage campaign

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Microsoft has been doing a lot of marketing to promote its latest mobile platform, Windows Phone 8. The tech giant has recently taken to Twitter and launched a strategy in order to win over Android users by launching a campaign called Droid Rage and in return, the brand is offering a person the chance to win a present.

The basis of the contest is really simple. All one needs to do is type out their worst malware ‘horror’ experience with an Android handset and use the #droidrage hash tag. The person with the best, or rather worst story stands a chance to win a get-well present.

Microsoft then took it to a next level by typing out a string of tweets on the official Windows Phone page which are:

  • Wait for your Android phone to get infected with malware
  • Recover from SMS scam bill shock
  • Skip steps 1 & 2, buy a Windows Phone and connect with people you care about instead of some hacker plotting in a dark basement

Some users have responded to the tweet and have posted some replies with the hash tag saying, “Bank details stolen once after android malware attacked my phone after downloading an app from Google play -.- #DroidRage, took hundreds of pics on fam. vacation. Downloaded an app to store them, wiped all of them out :( #droidrage, #DroidRage play is full of malicious apps. Got 1 with unwanted ads in notification bar every min. Reset & lost all data :-( and various others.

However, it appears that not all Android users are enticed by the possibility of getting a present and instead they have turned the tables on Windows Phone and started a new hash tag which is picking up a lot of steam – #WindowsRage.

It appears that the battle of the operating systems is boiling up and users of the Android platform are standing their ground. However, it also appears that some Android owners cannot resist the urge of a gift and using the #droidrage hash tag nonetheless.

There are a few Windows Phone 8 handsets already available in the market and brands such as HTC and Nokia are aggressively advertising its devices. Nokia and progressive house music artist Deadmau5 reunited once again, and just like the first time they joined hands in November last year, the event was nothing short of epic. Nokia had a live stream of the event and if by any chance you had missed it, the video below will show you what went down when Deamau5 and Nokia hit London.

A lucky winner of the Droid Rage campaign may stand a chance to win a Windows Phone 8 handset. So to the victor go the spoils. Hit the link here to know more.

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
