Xperia X10 to Get Gingerbread in August

| by Ashish Koshy | Smartphones

The monsoon seems to have brought some Gingerbread along with the showers. Earlier today, Spice Mi-410 was getting Gingerbread love and now it’s Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10. Not only that, one of the oldest pieces of hardware around is also available through an online site called Indiaplaza for Rs. 17,000. Let’s take each of these stories one at a time, shall we?

Gingerbread loves you, X10

Firstly, Gingerbread will be available for your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. However, the news is not all that good. From what AndroidOS.in has to say, not all Xperia X10s can upgrade to Gingerbread. Here’s a quote that Sony Ericsson gave: “Even if there will be some operator kits getting this upgrade, as said before – some of you will not be able to upgrade your customized version of Xperia X10.

Along with the update, users will have Wi-Fi and USB tethering, an integrated equalizer in the music player and Sony Ericsson’s famous Facebook inside Xperia function. There won’t be any DLNA support the camera UI will be retained from the Éclair version.

A little dicey...

Coming to the bit where the Xperia X10 can be ordered for Rs. 17,000. The deal certainly sounds nice, because while most stores are selling the device for Rs. 22,000 this one sees a 5K cut! However there’s a catch to the story. You’ll have to sacrifice 6 months of the regular 1 year warranty that you usually get with this handset. If you’re ready to do that, then this definitely sounds a nice deal. Another heads-up would be the site from where you might want to order it from. Indiaplaza doesn’t seem to have a good reputation in terms of customer service and after reading up a bit on the site, apparently the peeps tend to deliver the wrong product! So we’d suggest that you take utmost care while ordering the X10.

We somehow feel that the X10 should get a price cut however; the official price should be reduced to below Rs. 20,000.  What do you think?

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
