Both, the United States President, Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh have active social networking accounts that they release updates through. The next political body to get active on a social network is government of Bihar, more specifically, the General Administration Department (click here for their Facebook page). Through the Facebook page, you will be able to stay updated with the latest happenings of the government of Bihar and it actually looks like they've posted a fair amount of content, given that they only opened their account this past Wednesday. So far, they've mostly been posting pictures of government buildings as well as links from the GAD website. The idea behind creating this page is also so netizens of Bihar can leave feedback via comments on their government's doings.

In addition to Facebook, the General Administration Department of the government of Bihar has also signed up for an account on Twitter where you can add them to your follower list to stay updated. Deepak Kumar, principal secretary of the department, said, "We would upload certain information and important announcements of the state government on both the sites. The Bihar government can be added to the friend list on Facebook and Twitter." According to India Today, Kumar said that most of the information posted on the two social networks is already available on the department's website (which explains the many posts that link to the website). Of course, since a social network like Facebook has higher visibility than a government website, the Government of Bihar is more likely to achieve their information dispensing goals utilizing a social network.
Kumar said that there is designated staff to handle the accounts of both the pages. He added that the pages on Facebook and Google+ will also be useful for state employees who work in the interiors of the state, as well as those who work in the media. Another local government body that has a Facebook page so users can stay updated is the Delhi Traffic Police. That page too is updated frequently enough, however with the nature of traffic and particularly the timely importance of traffic updates, it almost makes more sense for such a Facebook page to be a Twitter account. Are there any other government bodies you'd like to see on the social networks so you can give them your two cents? Let us know which ones in the comments section below. |
