UPDATE: Facebook is back up for most users. Let us know if the service is still down for you. Facebook has not made a statement on the matter yet but the outage seems to have been a DNS issue.
It seems Facebook has been down since the early hours of this morning in India. While the social network is accessible via mobile apps and the mobile site, m.facebook.com, access from desktops seems to be down. However, a handful of users also seem to have access via desktop browsers. The issue is a DNS issue even though it's easy to believe that the hot water that Facebook is in with the Indian government right now is the reason. The social network was reported to be down in Europe a few days ago due to technical issues as well. The social network released an official statement on the matter saying, "ause of technical difficulties. The social network made a statement on the matter saying, "Today we experienced technical difficulties causing the site to be unavailable for a number of users in Europe. The issue has been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience." ![]() Facebook down in India
Europe took to Twitter to complain about Facebook being down, but given the arguable rift between Facebook users and Twitter users in India, there is not as much mention of Facebook being down. In the meantime, Facebook, along with Google will stand on trial in India for not consenting to censor objectionable content in the country. According to the Wall Street Journal, if Facebook is convicted, executives could be issued time in jail and the company would have to face hefty fines. If Facebook is either down or working for you, mention it in the comments section below. Also mention which device you're accessing or attempting to access the social network from. |
