Fake names banned on Google+

Google has stated that users will have to use their real world names on Google+, or else they will not be allowed to use the social network. They said that they wanted to make connecting people on the web a lot like connecting people in the real world, and therefore will mandate real world names. Previously, when Google judged a user with a pseudonym, they would suspend the profile and then let the user appeal their case. However, now, there will be no appealing. If Google judges your name to be fake, they suspend you. You have four days to fix your name to your real one otherwise, you're booted off Google+. You can take your content with you using Google Takeout. You have to keep it real on Google+
This has, of course, angered users who use pseudonyms claiming privacy on social networks. 'Gwyddonaid' on YouTube said: 'I will be removing Google+ from my online activities. There are many reasons for the use of pseudonyms, including personal safety. For years, we have instructed children and others to not use their 'real names' online for privacy and safety concerns. Now Google, in its INFINITE 'UN'wisdom decrees that only 'real names' will be used." Google+ competitor, Facebook, still allows pseudonyms which ultimately will draw the web identity shy crowd more. |
