Google+ Hangouts on the Air is a feature that Google launched last year, where Hangouts could be broadcast by specific users for all the world to see. Since then, Google says that they've noticed the community has grown the feature in many ways. Significant broadcast Hangouts have been the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, which was part of the Inaugural Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture. Closer home, another significant Hangout on the Air was hosted by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The actor is not only the brand ambassador for Google+ in the country, but he also used the social network to promote his film, Ra. One. Through such Hangouts, Google said in the blog post that they noticed one thing: "when groups of passionate individuals can broadcast live, together, the results are truly remarkable".
To take the results of these observations one step further, Google has decided to open up Google+ Hangouts on the Air to everyone in the world. Initially, as mentioned earlier, Hangouts on the Air was only open to a limited number of broadcasters. Now, if you're an aspiring artist, a big celebrity or just a concerned citizen, Google+ has provided you with a platform to make your voice heard. You can go live to a global audience in a series of mouse clicks.
Using Hangouts on the Air, you will be able to broadcast publicly. By checking "Hangouts on the Air", you can broadcast your live Hangout from the Google+ stream, your YouTube channel, or your blog to the entire world. You will also be able to see how many viewers you've got. During your broadcast, you can look at your Hangout to see how many people are tuning in. You can also record and re-share your Hangout. When you're done broadcasting, Google will upload a public recording to your YouTube channel, and to your original Google+ post. You can then share this post and your friends will be allowed to comment on it.
Google says that they're rolling out Hangouts on the Air globally over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, you can check out Hangouts on the Air that currently exist on Google+. You can click here to see what's going on live, or go through the collection on Google+ to find your inspiration. Will we get some valuable content from Hangouts on the Air around the world or will we get Hangout spam? Let us know what you think in the comments section below. |
