Sachin Tendulkar launches his official Facebook Page

Joining a populated list of celebrities on social networking websites is the Master Blaster himself, who now has his official Facebook Page. At 9 a.m. today, Sachin Tendulkar launched his official Facebook Page. 

Tendulkar’s official Facebook Page will essentially be a one stop destination for all fans of the cricketer from India and the rest of the world to connect, interact, and engage with him. His fans will also have access to up-to-date information about his matches, along with details about his past achievements. The official Page also has Tendulkar’s exclusive pictures, videos, first hand reactions on the cricketing world as well as exclusive pictures from Sachin Tendulkar’s private collection.

In a video posted on his official page, Tendulkar welcomes his fans to his Facebook family. He thanks his fans for their support. He writes, “Hello friends, I'll like to welcome you to my facebook family. As a child I always dreamt of playing cricket for India and I chased my dream of winning the World Cup for 22 years. It wouldn't have been possible without your support. I wanna take this opportunity to thank all of you for having prayed for me and wish well for me. I look forward to sharing my experience with you, join me on my facebook so that we both can share this experience and go through this journey together. — in Mumbai.”

At the time of writing this article, the video had already garnered 568 Shares with 1,085 Likes. 

Social networking is clearly growing in India as it is elsewhere in the world. The medium - be it Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus - is used by the masses to stay in touch with their friends, colleagues and family or to make new contacts. Celebrities and public figures use social networking as a way of connecting with their supporters and admirers. 

Celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton have verified profiles on Google Plus. Last year, Shahrukh Khan joined their ranks and became the first Indian celebrity to be verified on Google+. 

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi was in the news recently when he became the newest joinee on Google+ Hangouts. His appearance, ahead of the assembly elections, was viewed as a crucial event. Modi interacted with select individuals and groups on the popular video chat service on Google's social networking platform on August 31. 

US President Barack Obama appeared on Reddit recently for a quick Ask Me Anything (AMA) session with Reddit users. In an update he posted on Reddit, Obama wrote, "Hey everybody - this is barack. Just finished a great rally in Charlottesville, and am looking forward to your questions. At the top, I do want to say that our thoughts and prayers are with folks who are dealing with Hurricane Isaac in the Gulf, and to let them know that we are going to be coordinating with state and local officials to make sure that we give families everything they need to recover."
