Twitter's active user base surges to 100 million

Dick Costolo, Twitter's Chief Executive is one happy man. In a blog post, he revealed that the popular social networking site had reached the magic number - 100 million. Costolo shared with reporters that Twitter was now home to a whopping 100 million 'active' users. He added that along with the active user base who essentially log onto their Twitter accounts daily, an increasing number, almost half of the user base were using the mobile platform to use their Twitter accounts, too. Stastically, Costolo stated that the popular micro-blogging platform is now registering as many as 400 million unique visitors each month. As much as 40 percent of their user base, log in to their accounts to keep a track of what's going on and not necessarily to tweet. Over the time of its existence, the platform, owing to its wide reach is also being used a tool for voicing un-biased opinion by the masses. Costolo further added in the blog that a part of their bigger plans was the introduction of additional language compatibilities on Twitter. Earlier Hindi, Filipino, Malay and Simplied and Traditional Chinese compatibility were added.
Interestingly, the blog post also carries a mention about people with different professional bends using the platform to further their services better. These include leaders, athletes, humanitarians, entertainers and reporters. |
