Popular e-commerce brand in China, Alibaba, is gearing up for the bigger game. Alibaba Group Holding Ltd will by the end of this month have its own operating system powered smartphone device rolled out for sale in China. Now, an OS, too
The OS is essentially based on cloud computing. Interestingly, the OS is being released with the K-Touch smartphone, manufactured by Tianyu. The smartphone that will be rolled out in 10 varying colours will be made available by the end of this month. Also included in their list of plans is an Aliyun OS-powered tablet, which would be rolled out by the end of this year. The OS for starters, will come packed with services like email, internet browsing and support for web-based applications. Those planning to buy the K-Touch handsets wouldn’t have to bother with the installation of the applications onto their smartphones. K-Touch employs a sophisticated chipset from Nvidia Corp, owing to the sharp gaming displays it's required to produce.
Reports also suggest that Alibaba has approached Qualcomm Inc., with a proposal to develop an optimized lower-end chipset to power Aliyun OS to run lower-end mobile phones. The OS may also have an English language version of itself launched by the end of this year. However, any further details about the same are at best speculative.
It now goes without saying that the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Google, among others will have to make place for the newbie in the OS competition.
