We covered a news story, a few days ago which looked at the number of users that both Firefox and Chrome have been facing. IN that list, Google had managed to pull out ahead of Mozilla’s Firefox. This isn’t going to stop anytime in the near future, going by the recent trend. Firefox could be in even more trouble according to ZDNet. Internet Explorer, in comparison, enjoys a healthy lead over both browsers. While browser software is free, all browsers get a big chunk of their income through advertisements. Companies pay a lot of money to show up in the browser’s search toolbar. In the case of most browsers, Google Search happens to be the default search engine and yes, Google is paying each one of these browsers, including Firefox. Bright future...
Mozilla’s revenue through last year was $123 million and more than $103 of that amount came through Google. Browser development companies are able to pull that kind of money if they happen to be among the top browsers around. All along, Firefox managed to be the top browser after Internet Explorer. Now that Chrome has the lead over Firefox, Google can choose, if they want to, to discontinue paying Firefox, which would mean a drop by more than 84 percent of Mozilla’s revenue. Unfortunately, the time for renewing the contract is anytime now but of cousre that depends largely on Google. |
