Microsoft confirms $15 for Windows 8 upgrade

Microsoft finally puts an end to all the speculations about the price attached to upgrade to Windows 8. The software giant has now confirmed that new Windows 7 users can upgrade to Microsoft 8 for $15. So, the Windows 7 to Windows 8 upgrade is no way like the upgrade programs for Windows XP to Vista or Vista to Windows 7. Microsoft will not upgrade users to the corresponding Windows 8 edition for free and instead users have to buy a copy of the Windows 8 Pro. The upgrade program will run from June 2, this year until January 31, 2013. All those who buy a PC running on Windows 7, can upgrade to Windows 8 by paying the aforementioned amount. However, this upgrade program to Windows Pro is not for those who’ve purchased the PC before June 2.

Here are the hardware requirements for  those looking to upgrade to Windows 8 -

• Processor: 1GHz or faster
• RAM: 1GB (32-bit) or 2GB (64-bit)
• Drive space: 16GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
• Video card: Microsoft DirectX 9 compatible device

 
News about Microsoft charging for the upgrade had been making rounds for some time now. However, there was no confirmation about the amount from the company. The new edition of Windows comes with a slew of features and improvements. The highlight is the Metro UI and one will find more Bing apps. Mail, Photos and People apps have also been enhanced further, allowing personalizing the start screen and better support for multiple monitors.
