The success trail was sequentially set since it’s unveiling. The chart progressed from 30 million copies being sold three months after its release to 300 million licenses being sold fifteen months post its release. Keeping up the 20 million jumps constant since its launch, the sales did slow down a bit. But, Microsoft is one optimistic player. Keeping the holiday season strong in mind, it has several hopes pinned.

The figures that Windows 7 has put on board are a complete contrast to the performance of Microsoft’s very ambitious Windows Vista. Vista, although a potentially good product failed to gather much storm, it sold to around 330 million Internet users two years after launch.

According to Redmond, the independent voice platform for the Microsoft community, Windows 7 has gained popularity on both the office and home usage fronts. It is very close to leaving behind the figure set by the loyal Windows XP. Experts believe that it could cross the figures in an estimated 12-15 month span. No points for guessing who will take it over from there – Windows 8.
