Microsoft Yanks Windows SP3 Release

Microsoft yanked its SP3 for Windows XP from its update servers and has delayed its release indefinitely. The reason being attributed to this move as cited here, is that the new SP3 conflicts with a Windows SOHO software called "Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS)". This newly uncovered bug however does not affect only XP SP3 but is also causing problems for the recently introduced Windows Vista SP1. Though Microsoft has not halted the download availability of Windows SP1, it has stopped the automatic push of SP1 to Windows Vista users. The company has not stated any fixed time-frame for when it would be able to resolve this issue. This latest problem comes after Microsoft faced a lot of flak when the launch of Windows Vista SP1 caused bootup problems for a lot of users. This is strange because the Microsoft has yanked this patch over a software that is not that commonly used. Microsoft could easily have allowed the patch to roll ahead and perhaps hot-fixed the problem. |
