Opera Software has officially launched the newest version of its browser, dubbed Opera 12. In April, we saw the browser junkies make available the beta version of Opera 12, codenamed Wahoo. Users can download and begin using the browser for free from here. Opera 12 has added some customization features, so that the browser window looks appealing to users. It comes with themes, which allow users to easily and quickly customize the look of the browser. There are hundreds of themes to choose from, and Opera promises to continue adding more themes to suit a user’s style and preference. ![]() With new themes!
Opera 12 comes with support for Web Real Time Communication (WebRTC) standard. It has also set up some demos to show off the new WebRTC features, including fun-filled photo apps, like Photo Booth and Polaroid, and also a driving game called FaceKat. Opera 12 has added some security features, too. They have included security and privacy policies for the sites you visit. These policies let you quickly see if a site is using your location information or wants to turn on your webcam. Besides, there are several minor tweaks and tucks to ensure a smooth browsing experience. The plugins of the browser run in their own process, so even if they crash, Opera continues to work. Opera 12 has also received a significant speed boost, allowing faster page loading, faster start up and faster HTML5 rendering compared to its predecessor. It comes with 64-bit support on Windows and Mac for better performance on more advanced machines.
“You spend hours each day in front of a web browser,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera. “Shouldn’t those hours be as fun and, occasionally, as productive as possible? We think so, so we made Opera 12 the smartest, fastest and most unique browser available. In a sea of browsers that look the same and act the same, isn’t it nice to know that you can get something better? We think you deserve it.”
The Opera 12 now supports 60 languages in totality, and the company recommends its Speed Dial extensions to visit your favourite sites with a single click. |
