Windows 7 Least Infectious: Microsoft Security Intelligence Report

14 May, 2011, 3:14 pm IST | by Anuradha Shetty | Software

A recent report by Microsoft, its Security Intelligence Report, to be precise, states that Windows 7 is the least infected one.

My hands are cleaner, than yours.

My hands are cleaner, than yours.

The report places Windows 7 over the likes of its predecessors – Windows XP and Windows Vista. The infection rate seen in the Windows 7 was pegged at a measly 3.8per cent for its 32-bit versions, and 2.5per cent for 64-bit versions. These figures make up for almost half of Windows Vista’s and was lesser that a fifth of those of Windows XP.

While a recent patch on Windows 7, called the Kernel Patch Protection is cited to have done the trick for Windows 7, a section of analysts believe this to be the cause of the fact that Windows 7 was still very new into the space, and that the low infection figures just bore testimony to that.

The Security Intelligence Report by Microsoft is the software giant’s way analyzing threats in the form of vulnerabilities, and various other exploits. The report bases itself on the data that it picks from over 600 million systems worldwide.
