Windows 7 Officially Named Windows 7

14 Oct, 2008, 9:07 am IST | tech2 News Staff |

Microsoft has confirmed that the successor to the Vista operating system - what we call Windows 7 now - will officially be called, well, Windows 7.

In a post on the Windows Vista Team Blog, Corporate Vice President, Windows Product Management, Mike Nash, says that the idea behind naming the OS simply Windows 7 was simplicity itself.

He goes on to say that they'd tried everything from version numbers like Windows 3.11, dates like Windows 98, or 'aspirational monikers' like Windows XP and Vista.

Redoing all of that didn't quite make sense to them so keeping it simple seemed like the best option.

A pre-beta developer only release will be handed out at PDC and WinHEC
