Corsair launches 90GB 6GB/s Solid State Drives

24 Aug, 2011, 10:56 am IST | by Karan Shah | Storage

Corsair, suppliers of PC gaming components, have announced the worldwide retail availability of their Force Series 3 and Force Series GT solid state drives. These models are available in 90GB configurations.

Corsair Force Series 3 SSDs have native support for SATA 6GB/s, with a maximum sequential read speed of 550 MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 500 MB/s and they make use of asynchronous flash memory. Force Series GT, on the other hand, use ONFI synchronous flash memory and have read speeds of up to 555 MB/s and write speeds of up to 505 MB/s. Generally, synchronous flash memory directly relates to faster reading and writing non-compressible data, such as video and music files and this might just be the Corsair SSDs USP.

Instead of the spinning platters found on conventional hard disk drives, SSDs utilize flash memory for data storage. This generally offers a much faster performance, with lower energy consumption, reduced heat output and improved reliability without risk of a hard drive crash.

Both Corsair models are also backward compatible with SATA 2, and include a 3.5-inch adapter for use in both notebook and desktop PCs. The Corsair Force Series 3 90GB is priced from Rs. 7,999, along with a warranty of 3 years and will be available through Corsair's network of authorized distributors and resellers.
