While Sakshat looks to be far away now (looking at the fact that the government’s searching for some new takers for the project), Brainchild, a Taiwanese company, has launched an Android tablet for students. Named KINEO, some features like messaging and cameras have been omitted from the tablet. KINEO for kids As per sources, KINEO was announced recently at the Florida Educational Technology Conference and the functions are primarily education based. Stuff like cameras or SMS-ing capabilities, which could be a distraction, have been removed. Come to think of it, such features have the tendency to distract even working adults, let alone students. KINEO has a rugged touchscreen, so even the clumsiest of kids can get away scot-free after dropping it a few times. It is said to run Android but there’s no mention of the version of Google’s OS. There’s also an HDMI out port, so you can plug the device to a TV to check out some cool education films. Although games haven’t been mentioned, we certainly hope they are included because we don’t want our children grow as first class nerds. Check out the KINEO in action below. The tablet is already up for pre-order and costs $299 (approx Rs. 13,650). Let’s hope that we get to see some more of KINEO when it arrives in India. |
