Notion Ink Adam Tablets up for Pre-order, Pixel Qi Versions Sold Out

People have been waiting for Notion Ink to launch their tablet, the Adam for quite some time now. As were we, so we pounced when there was a rumor of it being launched in November, and when prices were leaked. Now the tablets are up for pre-order on the Notion Ink website, along with quite some information.

Let's have a look at the specs first, and then move on the more serious issue of prices.

The device weighs around a kilo and could churn out some great processing with the Nvidia Tegra 250 and Dual-Core Cortex A9 processors. There are some other features such as a 3-axis accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and GPS as well. The Adam features two USB slots through which you can connect a keyboard and/or mouse or use it to charge other USB-based devices. It is also bundled with Adobe Flash and is expected to support AIR when it launches. Another one of the cool features is that it comes with HDMI out that supports 1080p video output which in all probability means you could play Full HD video, which also means support for all video codecs (fingers crossed). The tablet has a SIM card slot for 3G and EDGE support and although unspecified just yet could also be for making calls and sending Text messages (the way Samsung Galaxy Tab and OlivePad do).

Full specs are as follows:
  • 10.1-inch WSVGA (1024 x 600) Trasnflective display with multi-touch. It's also Fingerprint and scratch-resistant.
  • Wi-Fi and WWAN - 3G HSPA Compliant
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 3.2 MP Auto Focus Swivel Camera that rotates up to 185 degrees
  • 1GB DDR2 RAM
  • Expandable memory up to 128 GB
  • Micro-SD Card support
  • USB 2.0 Host x 2
  • Mini USB port
  • HDMI-out port supporting 1080p video
  • SIM Card slot
Looks good, doesn't it?

The site has an option for pre-orders with the Indian prices :
  • Backlit LCD with Wi-Fi only - Rs. 21,266
  • Backlit LCD with Wi-Fi and 3G- Rs. 23,766
The Pixel Qi versions are already sold out and hence the price hasn't been listed. Prices for the other devices in Dollars worked out to be cheaper by about Rs. 4,000. The Pixel Qi versions were listed at $499.45 (Rs. 22,790) for the Wi-Fi only model and $549.99 (Rs. 25,100) for the Wi-Fi and 3G version. I'm pretty sure that the Dollar prices would be lower in this case as well. This is a bit strange considering the fact they're an Indian company. The only guess we can make with regards to the price differential is that the devices aren't being manufactured here.

This might actually happen with the tablet!

We've tried to contact Notion Ink in hope of a clarification, but haven't received any information as of yet. We'll be updating you with further details as we get them, so stay tuned.
