As impressive as it gets, news has it that college students across the city will be able to avail the low-cost tablet at an even lower cost; almost at a 50 percent discount. Times of India confirms the news and states that the 'world's most affordable tablet' - Aakash, which earlier was being sold for Rs .2,500 to students, educational institutions, will now come with a price tag of Rs.1,138, which is almost 50 percent lesser than the previous price.

Several universities, including the Mumbai University will receive the Aakash tablet, to further the benefit of quality education to scores of students. The report also carried a quote by Rajpal Hande, Director, Board of College and University Development, "We have issued circulars to all affiliated colleges and departments. They have to get back to us with their requirements. We are hoping that students will avail of the facility as they are getting it at almost a 50% discount. I am also told an improved version of the tablet will be launched in February, so the students might get an upgraded version.

The government surely seems to be all geared up to fulfill its promise of delivering quality education through the use of affordable technology. Aakash, seems to be just the first step. Additionally, the report reveals that to supplement their education better, they can also access the online content; available for undergraduate and postgraduate courses by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.

Only days ago, we had reported about Aakash tablets being sold off on their online website (aakashtablet.com). This just goes on to add that the masses have taken a liking to the humble product, and a further reduction in the prices is bound to encourage this.
