Adobe Working Towards Improving Flash on Chrome OS

Ever since it was announced that Google Chrome would start integrating the Flash Player in the browser, it seemed apparent the Google Chrome OS, which is pretty much an extension of the browser functioning as an OS, would do the same. While the various Cr-48 sneak peeks around the internet confirmed Flash integration, performance wasn’t up to the mark. However, Adobe are busy trying to improve Flash performance on the Operating System, stating Flash Player 10.1 support on the Chrome OS was still a “work in progress”. Integration not proving to be this easy In an official blog post , Paul Betlem, Sr. Director of Engineering, said the highest priority was being placed on implementing hardware video acceleration, which would drastically improve video performance. Makes sense to me, because half the population would rage if the final release - not the prototype - of the OS didn’t play their favourite Youtube videos very well. Considering Adobe only unlocked complete video hardware acceleration for the Windows, Mac and Linux versions of the Flash Player this month (let’s be honest here – Windows and the like have been around forever now), I’m really not sure how long it’ll them to reach satisfactory performance levels on the newborn Chrome OS. Here’s hoping they make it on time. |
