Amazon targets Apple iPad in new advertisement

Amazon hasn't exactly been quiet about making the Apple iPad an opponent in the tablet wars. Their latest move on the matter is a television commercial they released, which 'downed' the iPad. According to The Next Web, Amazon has not even released official sales figures for the Kindle Fire tablet and other associated devices that are still considered to be the only viable competition to the Apple iPad, thus far. They have targeted Apple iPads in commercials before, for instance saying that the iPad makes it difficult for owners to use their devices in sunlight. It's latest commercial jabs the Apple iPad at its price tag. Watch the video embedded below to watch the ad.
Amazon says in its latest commercial that you can not only buy two Kindle Fire tablets, but also add a standard Kindle to the mix in the amount that you would pay for an iPad. The Kindle Fire costs $199 (Rs. 9,751) and while yes, it is largely cheaper than the iPad, so are many other Android-based tablets. Comparing the capabilities and consumer satisfaction is another matter, and certainly not independent of price, but of course, in the process of leaving out these details, the ad doesn't paint the full picture.
The jabbing is almost reminiscent of the first Mac versus PC ads that ran from 2006 to 2009. Of course, there were several back and forths between Apple and Microsoft. The latter responded to Apple's "Get a Mac" campaign with the clever "I'm a PC" campaign in 2008. Watching those ads, no matter which side you were on was fun because the ads talked about the lifestyles associated with each products and even dug into a few stereotypes of the "creative types" and the "crunching numbers types" that a lot of us can relate to. What do you think about Amazon's jabs? Do you think Apple needs to respond? |
