A lot has been happening on the HP TouchPad front. It all started with HP’s decision to stop tablets and phone production and development, and maybe even sell off their PC business. What followed was a big price drop of the TouchPads to just $99 (Rs. 4,500) for the cheapest model. News got out and everyone bought one. But Cyanogenmod, an Android custom ROM development team (whose head was recently hired by Samsung) has been at work to get Android running on the Touchpad. Team TouchDroid has now posted a video of the TouchPad running Android with not just single touch, but multi-touch capabilities.
In recent days, there has also been some success with dual booting WebOS and Android. For those of you (and like many of us at Tech2), who didn’t manage to get their hands on the cheap TouchPads, there’s news that HP might be producing some 2,00,000 more of them. When this new batch goes on sale is still unknown, but keep your eyes peeled for any news. HP had priced the TouchPad tablets at $449 (approximately Rs. 20,500) for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. With such a major price drop and the possibility of it running Android perfectly fine in the near future, this might just become the ultimate Android tablet out there. |
