ASUS officially announcing the Transformer 2 on 9th November

20 Oct, 2011, 5:29 pm IST | by Aaron Almeida | Tablets

We previously reported that the Asus Transformer 2 would sport the all new NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip but there was no actual indication as to when this slate would be launched. At the All Things D’s AsiaD conference, ASUS chairman Jonny Shih was interviewed by Walt Mossberg of All Things D at Hong Kong, and offered a glimpse of the Eee Pad Transformer 2, Intel Ultrabook – the Zenbook UX31.

Speaking about the Transformer 2, Shih said that it features a 10-inch screen and a depth of just 8.3mm making it super slim. This slate also has NVIDIA’s quad-core processor making it extremely powerful. Apart from that it features USB as well as mini HDMI ports. He goes on to state that Asus will be officially announcing the Transformer 2 on the 9th of November 2011. When asked if it will feature Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of the year, Shih said that it would be out probably earlier than that.

Regarding the Zenbook UX31, Shih said that it is designed to rival Apple’s MacBook Air with its incredibly thin form factor. This notebook features Intel’s second generation Core i7 processor, a next generation solid state drive and USB3.0 ports. This tablet weighs in at just 1.2kgs. Shih ended the interview by stating that "boundaries between smartphones, laptops and notebooks are blurring.”
