CES 2013: Vizio unveils 11.6-inch AMD-based full HD Windows 8 tablet

| by Shunal Doke | Tablets

Vizio has unveiled its new tablet. The 11.6-inch tablet runs on Windows 8 and sports a 1080p display, according to Engadget. The most notable thing about the tablet is Windows 8. This would be Vizio's first tablet running on Windows 8 instead of Windows RT. This would give users access to essentially the entire Windows 8 PC experience, including the desktop and the ability to run Windows executables.

The other major specifications of the tablet include a dual-core 1GHz AMD Z60 chip, which makes this tablet one of the first Windows 8 slates to use an AMD chip. The tablet also sports a Microsoft Signature software install, which means that nothing other than the operating system itself has been installed by the OEM. This includes bloatware that you sometimes get with tablets and laptops, depending on the OEM. It also sports 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera and micro-HDMI and micro-USB ports.

The main difference between this and Microsoft’s own tablet – the Surface – is that the Surface runs on Windows RT, as opposed to this running on Windows 8. Windows RT runs on ARM architecture and as such, can’t run standard Windows executables. The only source of software on Windows RT devices is the Windows 8 Store, whereas Windows 8 users can get software from all over the Internet.

No pricing or availability has been announced so far.
