If you are among the 3 lakh people who pre-ordered the commercial version of Aakash, then you’ll have to wait until next year. Aakash, which is being assembled by Datawind has hit all price barriers. While government is distributing these tablets in schools and colleges, the commercial version won’t be out until the end of January. According to Mobile Indian, a Datawind spokesperson revealed that improved version of Aakash will hit store shelves next year by the end of January due to upgradation and certain unexpected issues in manufacturing.
Aakash delayed.....until end of Jaunuary 2012
Aakash makers had announced a contest to craft apps for the Aakash for enthusiastic students across the nation. Ubislate makers have also inked an agreement with Nasscom, as a part of which 200 tablets will be distributed across several NGOs across the nation.
The new, upgraded version of Aakash will run on Android 2.2 and a spec sheet is expected too include 7-inch resistive touchscreen, Cortex A8-700MHz processor, HD video processor, 256 MB of RAM, 2GB of internal memory, support for GPRS and Wi-Fi, a USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack. Apparently, a much upgarded tablet attached with a Rs.400 keyboard is also expected to be in the pipeline at a cost of Rs.3,400. |
