Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 price slashed ahead of iPad launch in India

| by Aaron Almeida | Tablets

Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in India and it was priced at Rs 32,990. There has been wide speculation that Apple’s new iPads would be coming to India today and from the looks of it, to fend off competition, the price of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 has now been dropped to Rs 25,900 as per a listing on online retailer Saholic.com.

The iPad mini and fourth generation iPad are expected to launch in India today with the base model of the 7.9-inch iPad starting at Rs 21,900 while the larger, 9.7-inch variant is expected to debut at Rs 31,900. These tablets are expected to make a huge impact in the market and could decimate the competition, even though they come with price tags that are higher than tablets from other brands.

Galaxy Tab 2 receives a price drop

When Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, it ran Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) out of the box. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is fuelled by a 1 GHz Dual Core Processor. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is powered by a 7,000 mAh battery. It sports a 3 MP shooter with video recording capabilities at an HD 720p resolution and weighs in at 583 grams. It is a rebadged version of the company's existing Tab 10.1 (or Tab 750).

The company had first announced the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 at MWC 2012 event. Compared with the Tab 10.1, the new model is a bit thicker and heavier. There is a slight change in the design too, as the stereo speakers are more prominently placed facing the front, rather than the sides. While the screen resolution and type have remained the same, the Tab 2 (10.1) does get expandable memory support this time.

For those who've missed it all along, here's a quick look at what it has to offer:

  • 10.1-inch PLS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800
  • 3G, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct
  • GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS,
  • Bluetooth v3.0, USB 2.0,
  • 3 MP auto-focus rear camera with full HD 1080p video recording capabilities @ 30fps
  • VGA front facing camera for video calling
  • 16/ 32GB Internal memory with MicroSD Card support up to 32 GB
  • 3.5mm audio jack

The tablet is available in silver and white variants.

While there is no official confirmation yet, sources have informed us that the iPad mini and the fourth generation iPad will be available in India today. According to some sources, the 16 GB iPad mini Wi-Fi only version is expected to be available for Rs 21,900, while the 32 GB and 64 GB versions may sell for Rs 27,900 and Rs 33,900, respectively. The iPad mini Wi-Fi + cellular version may cost Rs 29,900 for the 16 GB version, and the 32 GB version may be priced at Rs 35,900. The high-end 64 GB iPad mini Wi-Fi + cellular version will sell for Rs 41,900.

The fourth generation, 9.7-inch iPad Wi-Fi only version is rumoured to be selling at Rs 31,900, the 32 GB model at Rs 37,900, and the 64 GB one at Rs 43,900. The Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad 16 GB version could cost Rs 39,900; the 32 GB tablet could cost Rs 45,900; and the 64 GB variant may sell for Rs 51,900.

So if you have waited for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1’s price to drop and want to snag a unit, now will be a good time to get your hands on one.
