Google Nexus tablet specs surface, runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Google, along with ASUS will announce the Nexus tablet at the Google I/O event that is scheduled for June. In the past, there had been no concrete word on the specifications of the tablet and there were only rumours claiming that it would run on Android Jelly Bean. As per a screenshot of a benchmark, we can see a bit more of this device, at least in terms of specifications where it runs on Google’s next big Android update, Jelly Bean.

In the past, there had been a lot of talk surrounding what version number would be used for Android Jelly Bean, but according to the screenshot obtained by Android Police, we can now see that it runs on Android 4.1, thus revealing that the version number is not Android 5.0. The author of the report states that the build number is listed as JRN51B, with J indicating Jelly Bean. The leaked image also displays the SDK version as 4.1 and hence the OS will be termed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The report also goes on to add, “I dug into our server logs and found multiple instances of Android 4.1 and plenty of references to Galaxy Nexuses running builds like JRN54 and JRN54F. Only a few weeks ago, a JRN build was listed as JellyBean with no reference to the OS version, which happens before Google assigns one officially. It looks like now they have. Sure, this information in our server logs could have also been faked, but based on my experience; it's so consistent that it's very likely to be legitimate.”

Besides the operating system it is running on, the leaked benchmarks also show the device name as Google ASUS Nexus 7, with 7 standing for the 7-inch form factor it features. Other specifications that have been revealed via the Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark show that the display features a resolution of 768 x 1280, runs on a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex A9 processor and features a Nvidia ULP GeForce GPU.
