Hands on with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z

| by Roydon Cerejo | Tablets

Along with the Xperia Z and ZL smartphones, Sony also announced the Tablet Z. Scheduled for a May release, the Xperia Z packs in the same goodies as the Xperia Z, but only on a larger scale. Sony has even managed to make the tablet incredibly lightweight, and it’s almost as slim as the phone. Here’s a little hands on with the Xperia Tablet Z showcasing some of its new UI features and the new design.

Here are some of the specifications of the Sony Xperia Z to jog your memory:

  • 10.1-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1200 x 1920
  • LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS
  • Bluetooth with A2DP
  • 8.1MP rear camera with LED flash and 2.2MP front camera
  • 16GB of internal storage, support for microSD card up to 32GB

The Xperia Tablet Z is spec’d very similar to the phone. Under the hood, we have a powerful Qualcomm quad-core CPU along with a generous helping of 2GB of RAM. Sony has used a "shatter-proof" glass capable of withstanding drops without causing any damage to the screen. This also happens to be the first mainstream tablet to get an IP57 certification, which is pretty cool. Finally, we have a chunky 6000 mAh battery in the back to keep you going all day.

In the meantime, be sure to read our first impressions of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z and while you’re at it, we also have a hands-on report on the Xperia Z and a specifications review of the same.

 6.5

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the only new 10.1-inch Android tablet to launch this year. And with no one to contend against, it is commanding a substantial premium in the market. This is not any run-of-the-mill tablet, though. The care and polish delivered by Sony is simply brilliant as we’ll see in a bit.
