IBN Live reviews Micromax’s Rs.6,499 Funbook tablet

| by Karan Shah | Tablets

At present, there’s no dearth of affordable Android tablets in the market, with the likes of  Zync Z990, iBerry Auxus, the new HCL tablets, the Ainol Novo 7 Paladin and now, Funbook from Micromax. The Funbook is positioned as the company's first affordable, Ice Cream Sandwich running tablet. IBN Live got their hands on the Funbook a couple of days ago and they were pretty impressed with it. In their review, they mentioned that, “Even in this age of globalisation, we do take a lot of pride in made in India products. More so when the market is flooded with made in China stuff. The Micromax Funbook proudly flaunts its made in India tag and is said to be the first 'swadeshi' tablet. Our review device was manufactured at Simmtronics Semiconductors Limited, Roorkee, Uttarakhand. India is a market of sasta, sundar and tikau (cheap, beautiful and durable)."

Here's a quick look at some of the specs of the Micromax Funbook:

  • 7-inch capacitive touchscreen
  • 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM
  • Android ICS 4.0.3
  • 4GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB
  • 0.3MP VGA front facing camera
  • 1080p video playback
  • HDMI port

Whilst unveiling the new device, Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax said, “Fun and education are two important elements of a youth’s life; they always try to balance between what they “have to do” and what they “want to do”. With the launch of Funbook, we are offering a smart solution to solve this dilemma, and we believe that Funbook will help create a balance between the two.

The review by IBN Live went on to say that, “Very few products managed to score well on all three parametres. The Micromax Funbook tablet may not be Aakash cheap, but it is wallet friendly. It may not be a beauty queen but is pleasing to the eyes. Durability is a factor of time and usage, this is one factor that, as the cliche goes, only time can tell. But definitely paisa wasool (worth the money).” More about the Micromax Funbook can be read out here
