IIT to draw up revised specs for Aakash at Government's behest

| by Anuradha Shetty | Tablets

Just recently, reports about Canadian manufacturer, Datawind refusing to agree to the list of specifications drawn up by IIT-Jodhpur for the Aakash tablet began circulating. Datawind had then stated that the 'military'-like specifications drawn up by IIT-Jodhpur were more suited for a rugged product, and Aakash was not one. The military specifications included test criterias for the tablet, among which was a water resistance test, in which the tablet would be placed in a rain chamber with rain supply at a rate of no less than 4 inches per hour.

Looking for a more consumer friendly Aakash

Now, the Indian Express reports that the Union Human Resource Development Ministry has asked IIT-Jodhpur to rework the specifications, so as to make it suitable for a consumer-friendly, Aakash tablet. HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal shared this with the members of the IIT in a meeting on Tuesday.
