Is this the upcoming Google Nexus tablet?

| by Aaron Almeida | Tablets

There have been a ton of rumours and even a leaked benchmark of Google’s next hardware announcement, the Google Nexus tablet. While that was enough to whet our taste buds, what we really want to know is what the tablet would look like. If an anonymous tip received by PhoneArena is to be believed, then this is what the 7-inch Google Nexus tablet priced under $250 will look like.

PhoneArena’s Daniel P states, “If these pictures are credible, the Google Nexus slate (naming not final yet we are told) will look pretty decent with this white front and two-tone back, but the presence of an earpiece slit is a head-scratcher. It seems to have a full suite of sensors as well as a video chat cam on the front, plus a huge circle on the back, possibly indicating a rear shooter too.”

In the past, a leaked benchmark showed the name of the Google Nexus tablet to be Google ASUS Nexus 7 with the number 7 indicating the form factor that it possesses. Other specifications that had surfaced earlier via the Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark show that the display features a resolution of 768 x 1280, runs on a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex A9 processor and features an Nvidia ULP GeForce GPU. These specifications match up to the tip received by PhoneArena. However, the other new bit of information received by the website pertains to memory with it featuring a 1GB RAM.

The website goes on to state that the tablet will be running an updated version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, which goes by the version number 4.1 and now Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. The author goes on to add, “This new version was hinted by our tipster to be an update to Android 4.0 like Éclair 2.1 was to Éclair 2.0, i.e. one that brings plenty of new features without being a complete visual overhaul. Let's not forget that Android 2.0 to 2.1 brought on Google Earth, and Google is said to introduce 3D Maps today and offline navigation at its I/O conference later this month, so that's what might be in store with the Nexus tablet and its eventual Android 4.1 update.”
