Kindle sales touch a new high - 1 million sold each week, this holiday season

| by Naina Khedekar | Tablets

The Amazon Kindle Fire was touted to be the hottest gadget for the holiday season. Now, according to reports by CNET, Amazon reveals to have sold more than 1 million Kindles a week. Amazon’s website shows off the top three sellers – the Kindle Fire and its e-Readers Kindle Touch and Kindle. The Fire was released in September at a price of $199 (approx Rs.10,608), which was also considered to be one of its key selling points. Customers also opt for gifting Kindle books, which has seen a rise by 175 percent, compared to the holiday period (November 25 to December 25), last year.

"We are grateful to our customers worldwide for making this the best holiday ever for Kindle," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO. "And in a huge milestone for independent publishing, we'd also like to congratulate Darcie Chan, the author of 'The Mill River Recluse,' and Chris Culver, the author of 'The Abbey,' for writing two of the best-selling Kindle books of the year."

Amazon says that Kindle sales didn’t just top its charts in the U.S, but also on its international sites, calling it the best selling product of the holiday season on its varying sites. Lately, Amazon is said to have released a software update 6.2.1 for the Kindle Fire. This update is expected to take care of certain issues, like sluggish touch response and no parental controls. The 7-inch Fire was also said to be an Apple-rival, but it seems Apple continues to dominate this space.
