MapmyIndia announces CarPad 5 tablet

MapmyIndia, India’s provider of digital maps, navigation and location based services, has announced the launch of CarPad 5, the next generation of MapmyIndia’s connected car products. CarPad 5 is an all-in-one GPS Navigator, smartphone and 3G tablet, which runs on a 1GHz Samsung processor (Cortex A8, S5PV210), Android OS. It has built-in 3G, Wi-Fi, and a 5-inch capacitive touch screen. The new navigation device is pre-loaded with Aura, MapmyIndia’s latest fully 3D connected GPS navigation interface.

CarPad 5 has a host of in-car productivity features built around MapmyIndia’s Aura maps. These maps have been rated as the most accurate and comprehensive digital maps of the country. They offer real-time traffic updates, house level search, security (track and trace), discount offers in the vicinity, etc.

The CarPad 5 has live turn-by-turn voice guidance to places, augmented reality with 3D landmarks, buildings and terrain, house-level details, travel guides, nearby information, and a friend-finder function.

MapmyIndia's mapped terrain in Aura covers over 6.3 million places, 5,79,000 towns and villages, 4,000 cities at street-level, house-level data for 36 cities, and 3D landmarks and building footprints for 34 major cities. All the maps are loaded onto the device, making it independent of the network.

The 3G-enabled Android device enables users to call, message, email, chat, search and browse the web at high speed, and access social networks. CarPad 5 is also equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. MapmyIndia CarPad 5 leverages connectivity by streaming photographs of places and letting users discover people and friends nearby, share their location and message with others – connecting users to everyone and everything around them.


The in-car entertainment offered by the device includes videos on YouTube, movies, stored music, photos, and the ability to search and browse photos on Flickr or other photo-sharing sites. Users can download new applications and games from the Android Market, which can be accessed directly.
MapmyIndia CarPad 5 is priced at Rs 19,990 /- (which includes the CarPad 5 device with 3G, Wi-Fi, 4GB SD card memory, pre-installed MapmyIndia Navigator Aura, containing the CarPad windshield mount and Car charger). MapmyIndia CarPad 5 is available for sale online at MapmyIndia’s store.
