Mercury launches dual-core mTab Neo 2 in India

| by Roydon Cerejo | Tablets

Kobian, a leading player in computer peripherals launched the mTab Neo2, 3G Voice model in India, today. The tablet comes with Gingerbread, but the company says that it will receive an Android 4.0 update down the line. With a long battery backup of 6 hours and multi-touch capacitive screen, this budget tablet is all set to create a new benchmark in the mainstream segment. This dual-core, 3G tablet is priced at Rs.14,999, making it the first Android tablet to hit India at this price point. The only other dual-core tablet in this segment is the BlackBerry PlayBook. The tablet is available for retail now and comes with a one year warranty.

Mercury mTab Neo2 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM and Google Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread platform, which can be upgraded to Android 4.0 next month. The 7-inch (16:9) capacitive screen supports 1600K colours and an HD resolution for the better viewing of widescreen movies. One can stay connected with their loved ones, thanks to inbuilt voice support and 3G module anywhere, anytime. All activities typically performed on your notebook, like accessing and composing mails, navigation, gaming, watching videos and photos and surfing the net are well addressed by mTab Neo2.  With the front and rear-facing dual cameras, one can capture their precious moments of life and share the same, instantly. From self-portraits, video recording, video conferencing and even live video chatting-two cameras allows one to capture it all. High-quality entertainment is offered by HDMI 1080P Video Output and Flash 10.3 online video. It has an 8GB internal storage and supports up to a 32GB microSD card.

Mercury’s earlier offerings haven’t really been a big hit, but this new announcement from them may just change that. A dual-core Android tablet for less than 15K is something worth looking forward to and if any of the current ICS budget tablets are anything to go by, then this one could give them a run for their money. We just hope Mercury delivers on their promise about the ICS update and rolls it out soon.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the only new 10.1-inch Android tablet to launch this year. And with no one to contend against, it is commanding a substantial premium in the market. This is not any run-of-the-mill tablet, though. The care and polish delivered by Sony is simply brilliant as we’ll see in a bit.
