Next Apple tablet to be called iPad HD, claims report

| by Aaron Almeida | Tablets

The next generation tablet from Apple is set to be announced tomorrow at an event, scheduled to take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The banners for the event are already in place and the only thing left to be seen is nothing, but the device itself. In the past, there have been numerous leaks about the product, which we feel is very un-Apple-like. Details about the tablet having a faster processor, LTE capabilities and high resolution display, which can qualify as a Retina Display have all surfaced.

Next iPad will be called the iPad HD

Around mid-last year, there had been reports doing rounds that Apple was set to unveil their next tablet, under the iPad HD moniker, instead of the long standing tradition of using numbers in their naming. If a recent report by CNET is anything to go by, then this could well be true with Apple prepping to ditch the name iPad 3, in favour of iPad HD. It seems that with the possible naming, Apple tends to milk the Retina Display capabilities for all it is worth and especially since it features a resolution of 2048 x 1536, we are not surprised regarding the change of name.

However, with Apple set to introduce the next iPad in just over a day, the brand may face some amount of issues when it comes to the demand of the tablet. An earlier report stated, “Apple may not be able to ramp up enough of a supply of iPad 3 devices in time for the launch, because of the short supply of high resolution displays. The iPad 3 is rumoured to come with features, like 4G LTE capabilities, an 8 megapixel camera, Siri and the highly anticipated Retina Display. Although Apple has chosen Sharp to replace Chimei Innolux (CMI) as one of its three suppliers for the high resolution (QXGA) panels - in addition to LG Display and Samsung Electronics, the whole supply chain has failed to substantially ramp up the supply of QXGA panels. As a result, iPad 2 will remain the mainstream in shipments in the most part of the first quarter before shipments of iPad 3 start gaining momentum in the second quarter.”

Let us know what you feel about Apple possibly deciding to opt for the iPad HD name, instead of iPad 3 in the comments below.
