Next-gen Samsung Galaxy Tab spotted

| by Nikhil Subramaniam | Tablets

Mobile World Congress is less than a month away so expect the leaks to come through at a steady clip. The latest is Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Tab. The Korean manufacturer is expected to bring at least two Galaxy Tab devices to Barcelona.

PhoneArena has scored a couple of alleged images of one of these forthcoming tablets, but it isn't exactly clear which one. Samsung is rumoured to be working on two tablets – an 8-inch one as well as a bigger 10-inch tablet, but the model number on the sealed unit of the tablet is too blurry to be determined exactly.

The box of the tablet also shows the app drawer, but the icons look too big for the screen, leading us to believe that this could be a budget tablet with a low resolution. Of course, it could just as easily be a mistake by the package designer.

Samsung has always gone with two tablet sizes – 7-inch and 10-inch – however, it is believed that this year the Korean company will be bringing an 8-inch tablet instead of the 7-inch version.

The company's Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has recently been launched in a limited edition Garnet Red version in the US, running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The specs of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 include a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 TFT display, 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor, 8GB internal storage, 3-megapixel rear camera and a 4,000mAh battery.

Samsung is also expected to announce a bigger Galaxy Note at the Barcelona event. As we had reported, the Note 8.0, despite being a tablet, will feature physical buttons which has not been seen on Android tablets in years. The display of the Note 8.0 will have an aspect ratio of 16:10 and, according to rumours, the resolution will be 1280 x 800. The back camera looks like it will be a 5-megapixel shooter. Other rumoured specs include 2GB of RAM. Like other devices in the Note line-up, this one will also have an S-Pen. Samsung’s 8-inch Note was confirmed unofficially by the Head of Mobile Communications JK Shin.

Samsung has only recently been able to find some momentum in the tablet market and the company's MWC announcements could have a further impact on the iPad-dominated scene.
