We’re all aware of the OnLive gaming system which allows PCs with lower spec hardware to run high games remotely off a high-end system. NVIDIA it appears wants to do something similar with tablets. Bit-tech met up with folks from NVIDIA at GamesCom 2011 and there are hints that suggest that you could run Crysis 2 on your tablet and possibly even stream it to your TV. When asked when this technology would be announced, the NVIDIA representative clarified that they weren’t announcing it, just testing it. OnLive is currently available in certain countries as a paid subscription service. If NVIDIA goes ahead with the plan, the technology could be available for free for local use. PC quality games, now on a tablet
Technically, the same system can be used to stream from one PC to another locally. Should this plan go ahead, we can assume that NVIDIA would be likely to make the feature available to Tegra and other NVIDIA hardware. Because of the way OnLive works, there could be some delay. NVIDIA’s streaming of games should be relatively lag-free because of the use of an internal network. |
