'One last run' for the HP TouchPad

31 Aug, 2011, 5:14 pm IST | by tech2 News Staff | Tablets

After HP’s decision to discontinue the WebOS, the company decided to sell their TouchPads at a discounted price of $99 (from $399) for the 16GB version and $149 (from $499) for a 32GB version. The news spread like wildfire across the Internet and on availability, the TouchPads went out of stock in no time. There's  good news for all those who were not lucky enough to grab the TouchPad. Mark Budgell, from HP’s PR team, confirmed on the blog post that one last batch of the TouchPad is in the making and will reach the markets soon. He stated, "The speed at which the TouchPad disappeared from inventory has been stunning. We have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don't know exactly when these units will be available or how many we'll get, and we can't promise we'll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase."

It is still unclear as to why HP is selling this tablet at loss making prices. But, speculations claim that the company is trying to clear out parts inventory lying in their factories, in order to write off the cost incurred while purchasing these parts. So if you missed laying your hands on the TouchPad the last time around, and look forward to doing so when it arrives now, do let us know in the comments section below.
