Samsung has launched a variant of its Galaxy Tab 2 310 tablet, the Galaxy Tab 2 311. The tablet is available in India and is listed on the company's e-store for Rs 13,900.

The Galaxy Tab 2 311 (model number: P3110) boasts of specs similar to its 7-inch sibling, but drops the 3G support of the 310.

Measuring 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5 mm, the tablet is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and has 16GB of internal storage. It comes with a 4,000mAh battery. The tablet boots Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and an upgrade to 4.2 Jelly Bean is in the works.

Other key specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 311 include:

  • 7-inch PLS TFT WSVGA LCD with a resolution of 1024x600
  • Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS support
  • Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and USB host support
  • 3-megapixel rear camera along with VGA front camera
  • 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD

The tablet is available in two colours, white and black. The Galaxy Tab 2 311, like many of Samsung’s recent devices, comes with a host of pre-loaded educational content. Users can download additional content from the company's myEducation channel. The channel is part of Samsung’s exclusive-to-India myServices bouquet. It includes access to movies, music, TV shows, sports, books and educational content through Samsung’s dedicated app.

The Galaxy Tab 2 310 was the first Ice Cream Sandwich tablet from the Korean manufacturer. In our review last year, we found that the camera was the only sore point in this tablet. “Samsung has managed to get everything correct with the Tab 2 310, including the price tag. Currently, in this price bracket, there’s not much to compete against it, so if you’re looking forward to purchasing a portable 3G tablet under 20k, look no further than this one.”

Samsung’s next generation Galaxy tablets are expected to be launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in a couple of weeks' time. The lineup is rumoured to have a 8-inch and 10.1-inch tablet. The company is also reportedly preparing another size variant in its Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy Note 8.0 will have an 8-inch screen and will slot in between the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note 800, a 10.1-inch tablet, in the company’s lineup of Note devices. It is also expected to have physical buttons, run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and bring an improved S-Pen experience.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the only new 10.1-inch Android tablet to launch this year. And with no one to contend against, it is commanding a substantial premium in the market. This is not any run-of-the-mill tablet, though. The care and polish delivered by Sony is simply brilliant as we’ll see in a bit.
