Toshiba Honeycomb Tablet Release Delayed

Toshiba today announced that it is delaying the release of its Honeycomb Tablet, the Regza Tablet AT300. Originally shown off at CES and later at MWC, the device was slated for a Q2 release but it has now been pushed back to ‘at least’ Q3.

According to Reg Hardware, the admission was made by Ken Chan, Toshiba UK’s Business Laptops chief. The news is a bit disappointing because the device is pretty nicely specced out. Toshiba had gone more down the media consumption route with their tablet, which will have a 10.1-inch multitouch screen that has a 16:10 aspect ratio, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and a maximum resolution of 1280x800. There’s an HDMI port, as well as a full-sized USB port for media consumption on the tablet itself or an HDTV.

Other features include a microSD card slot a mini-USB port. Apart from that, the tablet features a-GPS functionality, two cameras at 5 megapixel (rear) and 2 megapixel (front) and will come in two SKUs of 3G + Wi-fi and Wi-fi only. A rather unique feature is the ability to swap batteries, unlike most other tablets. The back cover will also be removable and replaceable with other covers that Toshiba will sell in a myriad of colours.

Hopefully the delay is a shortlived one and the device makes it out onto shelves soon.
