Videocon launches 7 inch VT71 Android tablet for Rs 4,799

| by Naina Khedekar | Tablets

After launching the 10-inch VT10 tablet last month, Videocon brings in yet another budget tablet in the Indian market – the 7-inch VT71. With a price tag that reads Rs. 4799, it directly competes with sub-Rs. 5000 tablets like the Ubislate 7Ci or the commercial version of the Aakash tablet. This new Videocon tablet sports a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with an 800 x 480 resolution. However, it doesn’t get the newest flavour of the Android operating system and still runs on the Ice Cream Sandwich.

Videocon has powered this device with a 1.2GHz processor and 512MB RAM. The device has 4GB of on-board memory and users can easily expand with the embedded microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB. So users can conveniently load it with all their favourite content such as movies, music, photos and more. It equips a 3,200mAh battery, so one can expect good battery life. This affordable tablet comes with connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G via dongle and an HDMI port. There is no word on the rear camera, but it has a VGA front facing camera. Like most of the affordable tablets, Videocon has also stuffed it with a plethora of apps for entertainment and social networking. It doesn’t appear to be too bulky with 191.4 x 115.4 x 12.5 mm dimensions and a weight of 181 grams.

Khalid Zamir, Head Product Planning and Development, Videocon Mobile Phone, said, "The Videocon VT71 is aimed towards the emerging tablet market of the country which is on an unprecedented growth spiral as of today, and will become one of the lead generators of revenue in the telecommunications market, going forward. Through the engaged device, we seek to create an immersive tablet experience for the discerning consumer, and afford him the best of multimedia experience on a 7-inch device. The announcement of the VT71 is an endeavour to expand the product portfolio of the segment and embark upon a pertinent customer engagement program wherein by affording them the range of tablet devices, we seek to bring about an engaged tablet experience to them."

The company had launched the VT10 with a 10-inch IPS display last month for Rs. 10,999. Its 10-incher also showed a decent spec sheet including 8GB internal memory, 32Gb expandable memory with microSD card slot, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI.
