BSNL Plans Triple Broadband Service

State owned telecom operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to launch its triple play broadband services by January 2007. The triple play broadband service, which combines voice, video and Internet, will first be introduced in Pune and Chennai, followed by Kolkata and Bangalore. BSNL is currently looking to make multiple partnerships with content service providers to provide on-demand and region-specific video services. Although tariff details are not made public yet, BSNL CMD, A K Sinha said that initially, the base tariff would be below Rs 500, which would be increased later, depending on the needs of the consumer. He added that BSNL plans to launch the triple play broadband network in major cities of India by the end of 2007. BSNL has also announced that its prepaid account card system, which is now used only for PCOs, will be available for landline users soon. The user friendly, recharge cards for landline users will be available in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 1,000 Rs 3,500, Rs 5,000, Rs 9,000 and Rs 10,000 and will help BSNL customers to control his phone bills and curb unwanted calls. The first of these prepaid cards for domestic landline users will most likely be introduced first, in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Read more here. |
