Telecom operator Reliance Communications (RCom) Wednesday announced the launch of an SMS-based e-mail service across its GSM and CDMA wireless network in India. The company has over 92 million subscribers. The e-mail on SMS service would empower RCom subscribers to have their mobile phones to act as smartphones and receive e-mails via SMS. The technology is provided by Canada-based provider of low-cost wireless e-mail services, iseemedia, said Krishna Durbha, RCom's head of value-added services division. "iseemedia provides the ideal platform to deliver our next generation service to drive more e-mail usage among our existing subscribers. We believe our push e-mail service can deliver substantial revenue upside over the years to RCom," he said. RCom is offering iseemedia's e-mail service for both pre-paid and post-paid customers. The monthly subscription cost will be Rs.30 and 50 paise per SMS. iseemedia will get a percentage of revenues. |
