VSNL's Ethernet Service Gets MEF Cert

VSNL has announced that it is the first Indian domestic Ethernet service provider to achieve Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certification. The Iometrix test laboratory has certified VSNL's Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Service to be compliant with the international MEF 9 specification of the MEF, the industry organization, dedicated to facilitating adoption of Ethernet Services. VSNL's Ethernet Services will connect 120 major Indian cities to key business hubs across North America, Europe and Asia. The service uses an Ethernet over SDH/SONET platform and complements VSNL's international Dedicated Global Ethernet and Ethernet over MPLS offerings. The EPL service benefits customers with the power of choice through a large selection of scalable bandwidths. In India, VSNL through its enterprise business division, TATA Indicom Enterprise Business Unit (TIEBU) will provide a suite of Ethernet WAN Services to the Enterprise and carriers. The Ethernet WAN Services offerings form part of a suite of Managed Network Services, Managed IT Infrastructure Services and Managed Application Services. Rahul Swarup, President, TIEBU said, "We are focused on delivering metro, national and global Ethernet services to our worldwide customer base, providing them the granularity to manage bandwidth with ease, and simultaneously lower administrative and equipment costs." VSNL International's Global Ethernet service has already been certified as compliant to the MEF 9 certification, making it the first global Ethernet service provider to ensure that their Carrier Ethernet services meet the functionality and conformance criteria critical for carrier-grade service. VSNL International services were tested between New York, London, Tokyo and Mumbai and were certified after successful performance against 244 test cases. The MEF certification will be presented to VSNL at a special ceremony, during the Nasscom 2007: India Leadership Forum in Mumbai. VSNL will also be hosting an Ethernet WAN Services road show in major India cities to provide a forum for enterprises desiring the competitive advantage to know more about Ethernet. |
