Phishing, among the several other vices has been hitting major web e-mail service providers and users, alike, since a while now. Now, in an attempt to nip 'phishing' in the bud, major web e-mail providers, like - Microsoft, Google, Yahoo!, AOL have joined hands with Agari - a brand popular for their e-mail security solutions. A report in CNET confirms that the major web e-mail service providers now aim to keep phishing at bay, and trust Agari in doing so. As a part of the union, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, AOL will provide Agari with the metadata from messages, which the users receive, so that the latter will find assistance to view phishing attack patterns. As a part of their routine job, too, Agari aggregates and analyzes data, which it then provides around 50 e-commerce, financial services and social network customers like Facebook, among others. These customers, on noticing unnatural patterns issue authentication policies to the e-mail providers. According to a quote in the report, which reads, "Facebook can go into the Agari console and see charts and graphs of all the activity going on in their e-mail channel (on their domains and third-party solutions) and see when an attack is going on in a bar chart of spam hitting Yahoo!" - a typical trend of such attacks can be seen. |
