Anonymous, the loosely structured hacking group tweeted, "Not so private and secret anymore?" refering to a hack into a security firm's website. According to AP, the group claims to have stolen credit card and personal information stored with U.S security company, Stratfor. Companies that have accounts with Stratfor, include Apple and the U.S Air Force. The idea behind the attack was to steal money to give away as Christmas donations. Anonymous said that it was able to steal credit card information from Stratfor, because the information was not encrypted. Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Sound familiar?
Stratfor provides political, economic and military analysis to help clients reduce risk. Subscribers pay for reports and analysis delivered through the web, emails, and videos. Anonymous posted images of the receipts of donations it had made with the stolen money. One Stratfor subscriber, Alan Barr said that he was not aware of his credit card information being stolen until AP had called him for comment. His information was used to donate to the American Red Cross. Anonymous has said that the client list that they have posted represents only a small portion of the 200GB worth of information it stole. They promise more leaks coming soon. |
