Bing, Facebook Strike a Deal

17 May, 2011, 9:54 am IST | by Anuradha Shetty | Web services

It isn’t news that Microsoft's been trying to outdo Google for ages. However, considering Google’s loyal fan base, the going isn't very easy for the software giant, but that hasn’t deterred Microsoft from trying different tricks.

Getting social..

Getting social..

Beginning from yesterday, somewhere around mid day, Bing introduced some surprising new features in its search offerings. For starters, the immense popularity of social networking site is being tapped.

Now users will have better, more relevant search results to their queries if they are logged onto their Facebook accounts at the same time. For example, any random query search will lead you to numerous pages before you find the most relevant or the exact answer. However, if you’re logged onto your Facebook account at the same time, the relevant searches will pop up on the first page, itself. A lot of this search behavior also depends on the number of ‘likes’ that search result or the link has got from your friend list.

Also, Bing searches will enable online shoppers to have a better shopping experience. Using Bing they would now be able to post links about products and services of their choice. This way they could get a second opinion on the same from their family and friends on Facebook.
