A comScore report shows that Bing overtook Yahoo! in the search engine market share in the months of November and December of 2011, making it the number two search engine, following Google. The advancing of Bing's positioning came from a 0.6 percent drop in Yahoo!'s market share between the two months. According to Mashable, last year, in the same months, the market share for Microsoft's Bing was 12 percent, while Yahoo!'s was 16 percent. Microsoft's Bing has been around for 3 years now and powers Yahoo!'s search engine. Bing sails past Yahoo!
Yahoo! held the number one spot in search engine market share, but lost it in 2000 to Google. Google, for a while, powered Yahoo! until it became as well known as Yahoo! and split off in 2004. Now, Google's hold of the search engine market is still way ahead of Yahoo!'s and Bing's at 65.9 percent in December 2011. Bing followed at 15.1 percent and Yahoo! was next at 14.5 percent. |
