Google Removes Google Toolbar From Firefox 5

| by Aaron Almeida | Web services

Many Firefox users have found the Google Toolbar in the browser to be a boon. This helps them in easily accessing Google without having to manually log on to the site. This shortcut option is no longer available for Mozilla Firefox 5 users as Google have announced that they have removed the Google Toolbar from the browser. According to a blog post from Google, the company has said that for their Firefox users, many features that were once offered by Google Toolbar for Firefox are now already built right into the browser. They go on to state that while the Toolbar for Firefox works on versions up to and including Firefox 4 only, it will not be supported on Firefox 5 and future versions.

In a related post, Google stated that though the Toolbar would not be enabled on Firefox 5, one can still add similar functionality to the browser by trying one or more of the Firefox add-ons. These add-ons include AutoFill, Page translation, Find in page, Spell-check, page sharing, site thumbnails on new tabs, bookmarks and Gmail notifications. This announcement by Google has led to some criticism from Firefox users. However, with this move, we can truly see how the battle of the better browser unfolds, whether it is Google’s Chrome or Mozilla’s Firefox.
